Heritage Building Skills

The Heritage Building Skills Scheme provides taster sessions and follow-on courses in the techniques of:           • Stone Masonry   • Lime Mortars & Rendering                    • Heritage Roofing

Taster courses aim to raise the awareness and develop the practical competence of individuals whose property or business would benefit from the added knowledge of these traditional skills which are such an important part of the local built heritage of the Peak District.  Each course is delivered as an independent unit, often at the weekend.

The longer follow-on courses have been developed to enable those who wish to consolidate their understanding of the subject and delve deeper into each craft. They would also appeal to those who are interested in gaining a qualification in their subject (please contact Vanessa for further details).  Most of the courses will be held at the National Stone Centre, Wirksworth. These courses are suitable for:

• Property owners       • Local history groups                      • Dry stone wallers       • Building contractors                      • Local authority conservation staff
