Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service in partnership with the National Stone Centre is building a new Eco Centre in which to promote Education for Sustainable Development.
Click here for latest news: International dry stone walling course 31st Aug to 2nd Sept at the new Eco Centre
Please note our new email address: ecocentre@derbyshire.gov.uk
This is a special opportunity to come dry stone walling at the brand new Derbyshire Eco Centre. A chance to learn and practice walling with the expert tutors of the Derbyshire Eco Centre (formerly College of the Peak).
The new centre will be at the heart of the County Council’s drive to combat climate change. It will provide a base for the development of the College of the Peak programme and be the county hub for courses on heritage and sustainable building skills, rural crafts, the arts and environment and energy saving / renewable energy.
In order to lead by example the centre will be designed, constructed and run to ensure it has a minimal carbon footprint thus ensuring that the building becomes a learning resource in its own right.
As a very visible showcase of best practice in sustainable design and construction it is intended that it will motivate users to put their new skills and learning into practice.
Construction commenced in November 2009 and the building will be completed in summer 2010.
